Lithium indium chloride (LIC) is a halide solid-state electrolyte used in next-generation all-solid-state batteries. Lithium indium chloride exhibits a wide electrochemical window. When paired with lithium cobalt oxide, LIC demonstrates capacity retention of 73.6% at 5.27 V after 70 cycles. Lithium indium chloride possesses layered structure that facilitates ion transport. LIC also shows linear I–V curves across all sweep rates, indicating a stable ion-transport pathway with low interfacial and bulk resistance. Lithium indium chloride typically exhibits high ionic conductivity in the range of 10–3 S/cm.
Lithium indium chloride can also be used to fabricate quasi-solid-state composite electrolytes with conducting polymers such as PEDOT:PSS. These composite electrolytes deliver a high initial discharge capacity of approximately 160 mAh/g with only 4% capacity fade after 30 cycles.
