2-Fluoroadenine (CAS number 700-49-2) is a fluorinated heterocyclic aromatic compound consisting of fused pyrimidine and imidazole rings. Adenine is one of the four nucleobases in the nucleic acids of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Adenine derivatives, such as adenosine triphosphate (ATP), are vital organic compounds in human body. In recent anti-cancer study, 2-fluoroadenine acts as a radiosensitizer that damages the DNA in cancerous cells under low energy electron (20 eV) radiation. As a fluorinated compound, 2-fluoroadenine has been used as a fluorine probe in 19F NMR for studying the conformational exchange in neomycin sensing riboswitch.
A thermoreversible hydrogel is prepared from adenine and 1,3,5-tris(4-carboxyphenyl)benzene in water. The hydrogel can capture dyes like methylene blue, rhodamine 6G and crystal violet in application of water purification.
